You would have had  a bad day at work , you may be feeling a bit stressful , even a bit low and looking to escape. The best route is a feel good movie.
Does this one fit the bill especially after a long long time ?

Yes you know a movie is the one you are looking for when

- you keep flowing with the breeze
- you smile with joy
- you laugh out loud more than you can count how many times
- you suddenly feel a lump in the throat
- you feel like grooving to the 90's with some shots
- you also want to speak your mind to the stereotyped Hindi cinema father
- you feel it could have continued a little longer maybe
- And  you are out and still humming one of the songs... tu premi aa ha

And it doesn't end here - it teaches quite a few lessons to a few directors and some top actors who have had it a bit rough recently -
Multiple lip locks don't help , emotions do ,
Period movies are good but happy movies are much better,
Over the top antics may work but feel good quotient coupled with good music definitely works
Sequels can also turn out good even though there not even a remotest
And some movies made with the intention of seeing joy in the eyes of the customer is a win win !

Having spilled so much of sugary syrup let me also warn you that it borrows its story from telesoaps , a bit from Govinda 90 specials.
The second half feels a little stretched at times and the plot has nothing new to offer as well and so predictable at times.

Yet first half is a joy ride and reminds of erstwhile Govinda movies where he is effusive yet so ridiculous and full of wit yet sometimes overthrown top. If you recall all his movies also revolved around his fleeting desire to get married to Karizma. So Varun Dhawan portrays the simpleton trademark aashiq quite well and dances with absolute abandon and whose innate desire is to marry Alia and while chasing her makes the fast half entertaining as well as breezy. Alia Bhatt also has an enviable screen presence and makes herself and her emotions count. Varun's best friend is an absolute fun to watch.

Badrinath ki Dulhania is one of the movies which is perfect time pass and paisa vasool. Needless to say Go for it !

3.5 stars

Badrinath Ki Dulhania review from other sources

Together, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are the best thing that could have happened to our screens. The beautiful effortlessness of their onscreen companionship plasters a grin on your face. Dhawan as Badri is adorable; you instantly take to him. He even pulls off some high-drama scenes impressively. Bhatt, unsurprisingly, gives it her all, and her sincerity comes through. But her accent, casually swinging between Juhu and Jhansi, is bothersome at times. RSVP Yes to this wedding; it’s grand, with good music, great people and delicious food for thought.

Aalia Bhatt is a wonderful actor, and can just as easily be Kumari Pinky, a laborer in Udta Punjab as Vaidehi Mishra in this film, is a given. She is luminous. But Varun Dhawan is a revelation. He can prance and dance like the best of the younger lot, but there is something vulnerable about his muscle bound Badri and that is commendable. Saahil Vaid is truly a super support, a friend you'd want if you are in trouble. This is certainly not Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, but stands in its own place. Happy to entertain.

The film's cinematography (Neha Parti) is decent. On the other hand, the film's editing (Manan Sagar) is strictly average and could have been tighter. On the whole, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is a beautifully textured love story and an enjoyable entertainer that wins you over and keeps you hooked right till the end. At the Box-Office, it will be a sure-shot success. Do not miss it.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania has its own set of flaws. But, it's the Dhawan boy (a brownie point for him) who wins over your hearts with his beguiling performance and makes you forgive the makers for it. Go for it if you are looking for some laughs, breeze and a story with its heart at the right place!

Alia’s performance as Vaidehi deserves to share this stunning description. Her Vaidehi is gentle yet headstrong and mature in ways Badri can only hope to be. By rendering her character as a picture of refined grace and magnanimity, Alia makes Varun’s turnaround seem emotional not enforced. She is Badrinath’s greatest asset and ability. Both the film and its leading man have the good sense to recognise that.

BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is a sweet and enjoyable rom com that has an undercurrent of dowry for a change. Previously Bollywood has handle dowry in its social melodramas like DULHA BIKTA HAI, GHAR HO TOH AISA, RAJA KI AAYEGI BAARAT, DAWAAT-E-ISHQ. Shashank Kahitan could have made a better film on the issue and given it a quirky, funny thought provoking turn but he allows this film to get happily surrender to the formulae of a rom com. It's more crowd pleasing then soul stirring. Watch it for the impeccably infectious chemistry between Varun and Alia they both nail it to the core and certainly are the most endearing young pair of Bollywood.
