Dear Maya review from other sources

filmibeat.com 2.5/5

Dear Maya has its heart in the right place despite of its own set of flaws. It talks about how a single thread of hope is still a powerful thing that could help one on the path of rediscovery when they ain't any sunshine. Though it makes up an interesting tale, the film isn't everyone's cup of tea as those looking out for some massy entertainment might be highly disappointed. For the rest, it's more like finding a reason to fall in love with oneself all over again!

Dear Maya works like a folded love-note slyly passed around a classroom: brief and heart-warming. But also obvious, in a sense that you see it coming your way.

Film's production values are first rate; technicalities are fine where Sayak Bhattacharya's cinematography holds your eye and attention. Aarti Bajaj's editing is smooth. Anupam Roy's music is noticeable with hummable numbers like 'Saat Rangon Se' by Rekha Bhardwaj. Sune Saaye and Kehne Ko also sounds good. Filled by endearing moments and charming performance, DEAR MAYA is a decent coffee time with your valentine. If you are looking for a smooth relaxed tale of love, life and hope DEAR MAYA is your dope.

Dear Maya does have some sweet moments but the film vacillates from interesting to ghastly so often you wonder if this movie was made by a committee. Wait for the movie to show up on cable.

There are few things as life affirming as the triumph of spirit. Watching the mild-mannered actress return to screen after a personally difficult time resonates with the headway she makes as Maya. As she savours the simple gifts of life in a sequence as sublime as her doe-eyed innocence and benign grace, it's easy to see why the girls couldn't bear to see her so miserable in the first place.

The visuals are beautifully and dexterously captured by Cinematographer Sayak Bhattacharya's lens. These frames along with the sound, designed by Manik Batra and his team are shrewdly and skilfully layered by Aarti Bajaj's editing. Overall, Dear Maya, despite its follies, touches a raw nerve and makes you embrace the film wholeheartedly.
