1. If this movie was made to prove that Baby was iconic then we may believe that !

2. But if this movie has been made to brand the concept Baby so that it creates hype before Baby turns 2.0, chances are it may not get the hype !

However it's not because Naam ... is so bland that # 1 is true .... as Baby was anyways iconic and a not so good prequel only glorifies it further

And if #2 is true it's not because Naam will serve as an campaign vehicle for Baby franchise but because it may do some damage to it.

And if you are wondering whether I am writing a review for Naam Shabana or revisiting Baby, you ought to watch a rerun of Baby after watching Naam Shabana to understand what I mean !

And if you have decided after reading my review that you should not watch Naam Shabana, it can be a wise and economic decision especially when March 31st is such an important date for banking and economics.

And if Taapsee Pannu needs a hit desperately and if this is that big launch pad to propel her stardom, then the pad needs to have a lot more springs and she needs to wait for her turn !

Naam Shabana review from other sources

TimesOfIndia.com 3/5

The first half indulges the protagonist and her love interest, Jai too much. It is only post-intermission, especially the last 35 minutes in which proceedings pick up. Taapsee delivers some knockout punches and is sincere enough. Manoj is brilliant, though he has just dialogue-baazi and no action to support him. As for Akshay, he is happy to lend his superstar-presence and bask in the girl power. So go ahead and salute his spirit.

Naam Shabana is a major letdown especially when you walk into the theatre halls carrying good ol' Baby nostalgia and expecting a similar adrenaline rush. In a nutshell, we would prefer to settle for a rewatch of the 2015 espionage-thriller instead!

On the whole, NAAM SHABANA is a well-made thriller with two contrasting storylines in the film’s two halves playing the spoilsport. However, given the strong brand value of BABY, decent interest quotient and lack of opposition at the Box-Office, will work out to be a huge advantage for the film. At the Box-Office, it will do decent to good business.

The scenes get so predictable, you can step out for a coffee and you wouldn't have missed anything. The action sequences are good, but the accompanying sound effects are so loud you step out of the theatre and punch your friend playfully to check if that sound effect is replicated. It is not. Obviously. And that is how we wish the next spinoff to be: not so obvious.

Naam Shabana, for all its avowed aspirations, it rarely ventures beyond the trite and tested. Watch it only if standard-fare action dramas do not put you off.

All said and done, NAAM SHABANA may not have an innovative plot but it's a definite crowd pleaser. The makers have probably planned this probable money spinner banking on the popularity of their previous brilliant BABY and the movie doesn't disappoint in entertaining the action thriller hungry souls of Bollywood and also gives a soothing nostalgia to the diehard BABY enthusiast. NAAM SHABANA is a decent bahana (reason) for Bollywood makers to start thinking on the spin off genre and churn some more interesting twist.
